Upper West Akim District was carved out of West Akim Municipal by L.I. 2126 in 2011 under the auspices of the late former president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills. The Upper West Akim District Assembly (UWADA) was officially inaugurated on 30^th June, 2012. It forms part of the thirty-three (33) Municipals and Districts Assemblies in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
