The Karaga District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 16 MMDAs in the Northern Region.
The District is located in the north-eastern part of Northern Region, roughly between latitudes 9°30’ and 10°30’ North and longitudes 0° and 45’West. Karaga the district capital is 2,844km from Gushegu and 94km from Tamale, the Regional Capital.
The Karaga District shares boundaries with four districts; West Mamprusi and East Mamprusi Municipalities to the north, Savelugu Municipal to the west and Gushegu Municipal (the mother district) to the east.
The population of the District according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 114,225 with 55,677 males and 58,548 females.
