The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and forms part of the 14 MMDAs in the Western Region.
The Municipality it is located between Latitude 400’N and 500 40’N and Longitudes 10 45’ W and 20 10’W. The Administrative capital of the municipality is Tarkwa and was created from the former Wassa West District under Legislative Instrument (LI) 1886 in 2007.
Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal bounded to the north with Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal, the south by the Ahanta West Municipal, the west by the Nzema East Municipal and the east by Mpohor District and Wassa East District respectively. The Municipality has a total land area of 2354 sq. km.
The population of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipaty according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 218,664 with 113,055 males and 105,609 females.
