The Ahafo Region is one of the sixteen Regions of Ghana and it forms part of the six newly created Regions out of the existing ten Regions.
The new Region was created on the 13th of February, 2019 with the Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 114 after the people in the catchment of the region vote YES for the creation of the Region with 99.68%. 307,108 out of 276,763 voters who cast their ballot in a referendum dated 27th December, 2018.
Ahafo Region has its capital as Goaso with the population of 599,852 has six Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) under its jurisdiction.
The MDAs in the region are Asunafo North Municipal, Asunafo South District, Tano South Municipal, Tano North Municipal, Asutifi South District and Asutifi North District Assemblies.
The Ahafo Region covers a total land area of 5,193km2 and is bordered on the north with the Bono Region, the east by the Ashanti Region, the west by the Bono East Region and south by the Western North Region.
The population of Ahafo Region according to 2021 Population and Housing Census stands at 564,668 with 285,340 male and 279,328 female
