The Atwima Nwabiagya North District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 43 of MMDAs in the Ashanti Region.
The Atwima Nwabiagya North Assembly is carved out of the Atwima Nwabiagya District Assembly as one of the 38 newly created and upgraded District Assemblies in 2018.
Created with LI 2327, the District Assembly has its capital as Barekese, Atwima Nwabiagya North District is situated in the western parts of the Ashanti Region.
It was inaugurated on March 15, 2018 alongside other 37 newly created districts.
The Municipality shares common boundaries with the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality to the west, the Ahafo Ano South West District to the west, the Offinso Municipality to the north, the Kumasi Metropolis to the south, and the Afigya Kwabre South District to the East.
The population of the District per the 2021 Population and Housing Census stood at 155,025 out of which 76,877 are males and 78,148 are females.
