The Guan District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 8 Municipalities and Districts in the Oti Region.

 

The Guan District was created following a Legislative Instrument laid in Parliament by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in 2019.

 

Created with LI 2416, the Guan District Assembly has its capital as Lipke-Mate.

 

Calved out of the Hohoe Municipality, the Guan District was inaugurated on October 8 newly created district assembly.

In terms of size, it covers a total land area of 343 square kilometres 

The population of the Municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 
28,238 
with 14,453 males and 13,785 females.
