The Gomoa East District Assembly is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDSs) in Ghana and forms part of the 22 MMDAs in the Central Region.
The District was curved out of the Gomoa Central District Assembly (Formerly Gomoa East) as one of the 38 newly created and upgraded District Assemblies in 2018 and has its capital as Gomoa Potsin.
Created with LI 2340, the Gomoa East District Assembly was inaugurated on March 15, 2018 alongside other 37 newly created districts, the district occupies an area of 539.69 square kilometers.
The District was carved out as a separate district from the then Gomoa District in 2008 by the Legislative Instrument 1883 and became operational in 16th June, 2008.
By LI (2340), 2017, the new Gomoa East District became operational on 15th March, separating it from the erstwhile Gomoa East with LI 1883 which had Gomoa Afransi as its Capital. It occupies an area of about 260.69 square kilometres.
The Gomoa East District shares boundaries with Agona West Municipal, Effutu Municipal, Gomoa West District and Awutu Senya East Municipal and the Awutu Senya West District respectively.
The population of the District according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 308,697 with 152,238 male and 156,459 female.
