The Builsa North Municipal Assembly is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 15 of Municipalities and Districts in the Upper East Region.
The Municipal is located in the north-eastern section of the Upper East Region and Sandema is the Municipal Administrative capital.
In terms of size, it covers a total land area of 824 square kilometres.
Two tributaries of the Volta River namely the White Volta and the Red Volta run contiguous to the Municipality's eastern and western boundaries respectively. There is a strong relationship between the geology and the relief of the Municipality.
Builsa North Municipal is bordered to the north by the Kessena Nankana West District, to the east by the Sissala East Municipal, to the west by Kessena Nankana Municipal and to the south by Builsa South District.
The population of the Builsa North Municipal according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 56,571 with 28,332 males and 28,239 females.
