SHS students tour Bolgatanga Technical University to explore career-focused programmes

The visit of the students, numbering 200, most of them being final year students, aimed to expose the students to the practical, industry-aligned programmes offered by BTU's School of Business and Management Studies (SoBMS) and to guide them in making informed career choices after high school.
Mr. Anadem Amos Azantilow, a Financial and Corporate Accounting Teacher at Azantilow SHS, emphasized that the purpose of the tour was to sensitised students on the opportunities available at BTU.
He noted that past collaborations between the schools and the university had yielded significant benefits, with several former students now gainfully employed after completing programmes at BTU.
Mr Azantilow praised BTU’s career-focused and hands-on academic approach, pointing out that most of its programmes were aligned with job market needs in both public and private sectors.
The students were warmly welcomed and conducted through the university’s campus by Professor Emmanuel Caesar Ayamba, the Dean of the School of Business and Management Studies, alongside a team of faculty members.
The students visited key facilities including lecture halls, state-of-the-art laboratories, the administration block, and the library complex.
As part of the tour, a forum was held for the visiting students, where heads of various departments presented detailed overviews of their respective programmes.
Dr. Chilala Osman, Head of the Department (HOD) of Secretaryship and Management Studies, outlined available options including Bachelor of Technology in Secretaryship and Management Studies, HND in Secretaryship and Management Studies, and Diploma in Business Administration.
Dr. Fuseine Mahama, the HOD of Accounting and Finance Department, highlighted programmes ran by the department such as Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Accounting with Computing, Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computerised Accounting (Top-Up), HND in Accountancy and Banking and Finance as well as other Diploma related programmes.
In the area of Marketing and Communication, Dr Benjamin Asunka Azembila. the HOD, introduced the students to the BSc in Marketing and Communication Studies (4-year), BTech in Marketing (Top-Up), HND Marketing, and Diploma in Marketing and Communication.
For those interested in Procurement and Logistics Management, Dr Oswald Atiga, the HOD, presented a wide range of options including MSc (both 2-year and 1-year tracks), BSc and BTech (Top-Up), HND, and Diploma programmes in Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, the Vice Chancellor of BTU, encouraged the students to consider pursuing their tertiary education at BTU, stressing on the university’s qualified staff, modern infrastructure, and strong focus on developing students’ entrepreneurial potential.
Professor Alnaa also urged parents in the region to appreciate the advantages of local institutions like BTU, especially in terms of financial savings and safety compared to sending students to far-off cities.
“BTU is equipped to provide world-class training across multiple disciplines that not only meet the job market requirements but also position graduates to create their own businesses,” Professor Alnaa stated.
