The Mion District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 16 MMDAs in the Northern Region.
The District with its capital Sang was carved from Yendi Municipal and is located in the eastern corridor of the Northern Region of Ghana between Latitude 90 – 35" north and 00 – 30" west and 00 – 15" east.
The District shares boundaries with the Tamale Metropolis, Savelugu Municipal and Nanton District to the west, Yendi Municipal to the east, Nanumba North District and East Gonja Municipal to the south and Gushegu Municipal and Karaga Districts to the north.
The population of the District according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 94,930 with 47,162 males and 47,768 females.
