The Wassa Amenfi East Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 14 MMDAs in the Western Region.
The Wassa Amenfi East Municipal was created out of the old Wassa Amenfi District in 2004 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 1788 and was inaugurated on 27th August 2004 with the administrative capital as Wassa Akropong, which is 6.7 km from the Cape Coast-Takoradi main road.
The Municipality is located in the middle part of the region. It lies between Latitudes 5, 30 N, 6,15 N, Longitudes 1, 45 W and 2, 11 W and it occupies a total land area of1,558 square kilometers.
It is bounded to the west by Amenfi West Municipal, to the east by Mpohor District, to the south by Prestea Huni Valley Municipal and to the north by Upper Denkyira West District and Upper Dekyira East Municipality respectively.
The population of the Municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 179,696
with 95,283 males and 84,413 females.
