The Ahanta West Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 14 of MMDAs in the Western Region.
The Municipality is located at the southernmost point of the country and the entire West African Sub-Region with its administrative capital as Agona Nkwanta also called Agona Ahanta.
The Ahanta West Municipal has a total land area of 591 square kilometers and it is occupied by 95,140 people according to the 2000 Population and Housing Census report.
The District is bounded on the east by the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), on the west by the Nzema East Municipal, and the north by Mpohor District and Tarkwa Nsuem Municipal and the Gulf of Guinea to the south.
The population of the Municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 153,140
with 75,219 males and 77,921 females.
