The Wenchi Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 12 of Municipalities and Districts in the Bono Region.
Located in the western part of the Region the Municipality lies within latitudes 7°30’ and 8°05’ North and longitudes 2o15’ West and 1o55’ East with its capital as Wenchi and it covers a total land area of 1067 square kilometers.
The Wenchi Municipal was one of the two local authorities created in 1974 and was established as a district by Legislative Instrument 1471 of 1989. It was later upgraded to a municipality status by Legislative Instrument 1876 of 2007.
The Municipality shares boundaries with Techiman Municipal to the west, Kintampo South District to the northwest, Tain District to the east and Sunyani Municipal to the south.
The population of the Municipality according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census stands at 124,758 with 60,960 males and 63,798 females.
