The launch ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, brought together Assembly officials, staff, traditional leaders, community members, and other stakeholders who pledged their support for the ambitious environmental initiative.

As part of the exercise, the Assembly distributed seedlings from 16 different tree species, including ornamental, timber, and fruit trees such as flamboyant, acacia, yellow bush, umbrella tree, mahogany, avocado, mango, coconut, lemon, and soursop.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga East, Hon. Edmund Agboh, called on residents, institutions, and community groups to actively participate in the initiative by planting and nurturing the seedlings to maturity.

According to him, the success of the programme will not only depend on the number of trees planted but, more importantly, on their survival and long-term maintenance.

"The Tree for Life Initiative is not merely about planting trees; it is about cultivating a culture of environmental responsibility and ensuring that future generations inherit a healthier and greener environment," he emphasized.

The Assembly distributed 200 flamboyant seedlings, 200 yellow bush seedlings, and 200 umbrella tree seedlings. Additionally, 100 seedlings each of acacia, bliglla, boohewie, ake apple, mahogany, and rian tree species were shared with participants.

The distribution also included fruit-bearing trees comprising 20 avocado seedlings, 15 lemon seedlings, 32 coconut seedlings, 15 mango seedlings, 10 poluathlon seedlings, five soursop seedlings, and eight Tree of Life seedlings.

The Tree for Life Initiative forms part of broader national efforts to restore Ghana's forest cover, enhance biodiversity, and promote environmental stewardship at the local level. The Ga East Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining tree-planting activities across the Municipality to ensure a greener and more resilient future.
