The project seeks to rehabilitate and construct feeder roads linking farming communities to market centres, improving farmers' access to markets, reducing post-harvest losses and facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce.

Presenting the agreement to Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, disclosed that US$491 million of the facility would be used for road construction and maintenance, while the remaining US$9 million would be dedicated to strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Department of Feeder Roads, the Land Valuation Division and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, assured Members of Parliament that constituencies not covered under the current phase of the project would benefit in the next phase. He explained that preparations were already underway for a second phase to extend the programme to underserved districts and regions across the country.

Chairman of Parliament's Finance Committee, Mr. Isaac Adongo, said the committee's assessment identified poor transport infrastructure as a major obstacle to agricultural development. He noted that the loan forms part of the government's broader strategy to improve rural infrastructure, strengthen market access for farmers and promote economic growth in agricultural communities.
