The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Assembly said the directive followed prior engagements with traders regarding the planned redevelopment of the market.
The statement instructed all traders to remove their goods, temporary structures, and other belongings from the market before the stated deadline to facilitate the commencement of construction.
It warned that the Assembly would be compelled to enforce the directive if traders failed to comply, stressing that any items left at the site after the deadline would be removed at the owners' risk.
The Assembly further stated that it would not be held responsible for any loss or damage to property left behind after the evacuation period.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the exercise may cause, the Assembly appealed to traders to cooperate, explaining that the project is intended to improve the market's infrastructure and create a more modern trading environment that will ultimately benefit traders and the wider public.
The planned redevelopment has generated mixed reactions among residents of the municipality. Some have welcomed the project, describing it as a major step towards improving the market and boosting local economic activity. Others, however, have expressed concern that the temporary relocation of traders could negatively affect businesses and livelihoods.
The Nana Bosoma Central Market remains one of the largest and busiest trading centres in Sunyani and serves as a major commercial hub in the Bono Region.
