Akuapem North: Hark Mount Sinai, Okuapeman SHSs Shut Down After Violent Clashes Leave Students, Police Officer Injured

Authorities have ordered students of Hark Mount Sinai Senior High School and Okuapeman Senior High School to vacate their campuses following violent clashes between students of the two schools.

The clashes, which occurred in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region, resulted in injuries to some students and a police officer, while several properties were destroyed and set ablaze.

At Okuapeman SHS, classrooms, a storeroom, toilet facilities and furniture were reportedly burnt during the violence.

Hark Mount Sinai SHS also suffered an arson attack, with a storeroom and toilet facility among properties affected.

In response to the escalating situation, the Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), led by the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, visited the two schools on Wednesday to assess the extent of the damage and help restore calm.

The decision to shut down the schools and direct students to vacate the campuses is aimed at preventing further violence and ensuring the safety of students, staff and residents in the affected communities.

Security officials are expected to continue investigations into the incident as authorities work to restore peace and prevent a recurrence of the clashes.

The violent confrontation has raised concerns over the safety of students and school property, with stakeholders expected to take further steps to ensure calm returns to both schools.
