The facility, constructed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, is expected to help address sanitation challenges in the area, reduce open defecation and promote hygienic living conditions among residents.

Commissioning the project on Friday, June 12, 2026, Hon. Akumatey described the facility as a significant step towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which seeks to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all.

He noted that improving sanitation infrastructure remains a key priority of the Assembly in its quest to create healthier communities and prevent sanitation-related diseases.

The MCE urged residents to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper use and maintenance, stressing that the sustainability of the project depends largely on community participation and responsible management.

The newly commissioned toilet facility features separate units for males and females, disability-friendly access, handwashing stations and a water storage system designed to ensure reliable water supply for users.

Community leaders and residents who attended the ceremony expressed appreciation to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly and the private developer for the intervention, describing it as a timely response to a long-standing need in the community.

They pledged to establish a management committee to oversee the operation and maintenance of the facility to ensure it remains functional and beneficial to future generations.

The project is expected to significantly improve environmental sanitation in Okper and contribute to ongoing efforts by the Assembly to promote healthier and cleaner communities across the municipality.
