The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, cuts the sod the in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, signaling the start of construction on the pivotal Agogo-Maame Krobo-Kwamepong Kwanta Road.
The 124-kilometre road corridor is a vital link, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and agricultural produce from the eastern part of the Ashanti Region into the Eastern Region. The project will be executed in phases, with Phase I focusing on the first 60 kilometres from the start point.
Of this initial phase, a significant 40-kilometre stretch falls within the Eastern Region, promising to improve access, reduce travel times, and boost economic activity for communities in the district and beyond.
Residents and commuters along the route have long grappled with the poor state of the road, which becomes particularly difficult during the rainy season, hampering transportation and isolating farming communities. The commencement of construction is expected to bring substantial relief and spur local development.
“This project is not just about bitumen and gravel; it is about connecting people, enhancing livelihoods, and integrating economies,” said a statement from the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council ahead of the ceremony. “We are committed to ensuring its timely and successful completion.”
While contractors and detailed timelines for the full project are expected to be announced at the sod-cutting event, the start of work marks a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development. Stakeholders are hopeful that the project will improve safety, reduce vehicle maintenance costs, and open up new opportunities for trade and commerce between the two regions.
