LADMA Disburses Disability Fund to Support Livelihoods

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has successfully carried out its 25th batch of the Disability Fund disbursement at the forecourt of the Assembly in line with the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) guidelines for Persons with Disabilities.

A total of forty-eight (48) persons with disabilities, made up of twenty-six (26) females and twenty-two (22) males, benefited from the exercise. In all, an amount of Two Hundred and Nineteen Thousand Five Hundred and Ninety-Two Ghana Cedis (GH¢219,592) was disbursed. Out of this, One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢160,000) was paid in cash to thirty-nine (39) beneficiaries, while Fifty-Nine Thousand Five Hundred and Ninety-Two Ghana Cedis (GH¢59,592) was used to procure livelihood support items for nine (9) beneficiaries.

The items provided included freezers, a refrigerator, and a knitting machine, all aimed at helping beneficiaries establish or expand income-generating activities.

In his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, noted that although the amounts disbursed may appear modest, they are sufficient to serve as seed capital for small businesses. He urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support, emphasizing that many others are still awaiting assistance.

The Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Madam Paulina Mensah, reiterated government’s commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities. She encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the funds and items effectively to enhance their livelihoods.

Also speaking at the event, the District Representative of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Anthony Adarkwa, called for timely disbursement of future funds and assured that monitoring mechanisms would be put in place to ensure proper use of the support provided.

The programme ended successfully, with beneficiaries and their families expressing gratitude to the Assembly for the intervention, which continues to promote inclusive development and economic empowerment within the municipality.
