The support package included block-making machines, deep freezers, wheelchairs, popcorn machines, and other working tools, while some beneficiaries also received cheques to cater for medical expenses and school fees.
Speaking during the presentation, Mrs. Grace Agyemang Asamoah urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their living conditions and attain economic independence. She also encouraged families and relatives of Persons Living with Disabilities to offer them the needed emotional and physical support instead of neglecting them.
The DCE stressed that disability does not mean inability, noting that with the right support and encouragement, Persons Living with Disabilities can contribute significantly to national development. She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continuously empower and support PWDs across the country.
The District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Madam Hannah Yeboah, also called on the public to avoid discrimination and marginalization against Persons Living with Disabilities and rather accept them as valuable members of society. She further advised PWDs to remain united and speak with one voice in championing their welfare.
For his part, the Local Chairman of the Federation of Persons Living with Disabilities, Mr. Yaw Nsafoah, encouraged members to identify and reach out to other Persons Living with Disabilities in their communities and motivate them to join the association to strengthen their collective advocacy.
He also appealed to the Assembly to ensure the timely release of funds earmarked for Persons Living with Disabilities whenever they become available.
