The exercise forms part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability, combat climate change, and enhance the municipality's green cover through the planting and nurturing of trees.
Speaking during the exercise, municipal authorities reaffirmed their commitment to achieving the municipality's ambitious target of planting 120,000 trees by the end of June. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to creating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable environment for present and future generations.
The tree planting exercise witnessed active participation from pupils, teachers, forestry officials, NADMO personnel, and members of the community, all of whom demonstrated a shared commitment to environmental conservation.
As part of the day's activities, the team also visited Wesley Methodist Junior High School to inspect trees planted during last year's exercise. The visit revealed that the trees had been well maintained and nurtured, reflecting the school's dedication to environmental stewardship.
To encourage the proper care and maintenance of planted trees, the Assembly announced that a special award will be presented in June 2027 to the school that demonstrates the highest level of commitment in nurturing and preserving its trees.
The initiative underscores the Assembly's determination to promote environmental responsibility among school children and communities while supporting national efforts to restore and protect Ghana's natural environment.
