The visit enabled the MCE to inspect the extent of damage caused by the downpour, engage directly with affected residents, and receive first-hand information on the challenges confronting the communities.

Speaking during the tour, Mr. Nkansah acknowledged that while extreme weather events cannot be prevented, the effects of flooding can be significantly reduced through responsible human behaviour. He noted that the persistent encroachment on waterways, blocked drainage systems, and indiscriminate disposal of refuse continue to worsen flooding, posing serious threats to lives and property.

He stressed the need for residents to play an active role in protecting their communities by keeping drains free from waste and avoiding activities that obstruct the natural flow of water.

The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to safeguarding lives and property through the strict enforcement of planning regulations, environmental sanitation by-laws, and other preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of flooding.

He called on residents to support the Assembly's efforts by adopting environmentally responsible practices to ensure a safer and more resilient municipality.
