During the visit, the Mayor described the extent of the devastation as heartbreaking, noting that many families had lost loved ones, homes, businesses, and other valuable possessions as a result of the floods.

The Mayor extended condolences to bereaved families and assured affected residents that the Assembly, together with relevant agencies, is assessing the full extent of the damage to coordinate appropriate relief and recovery interventions.

As part of efforts to prevent disease outbreaks in the aftermath of the flooding, the Mayor urged residents to observe proper hygiene practices. These include washing hands regularly with soap under clean running water or using alcohol-based hand sanitisers, boiling or properly treating drinking water before use, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms such as diarrhoea develop. Residents experiencing diarrhoea were also advised to begin taking Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) before reporting to the nearest health facility.

The Mayor further cautioned that weather forecasts indicate additional rainfall in the coming days and appealed to residents living in low-lying and flood-prone communities to relocate temporarily to safer, higher ground where possible.

He also encouraged the public to promptly report emergencies by contacting the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) through the emergency lines 112, 0302964884, or 0291913077 for immediate assistance.

The Mayor called on residents to support one another during the recovery period and to cooperate with emergency responders as efforts continue to safeguard lives and restore affected communities.
