Adenta-Dodowa Road Project 63% Complete, Expected to Be Ready by March 2027

Construction of the 22-kilometre Adenta-Dodowa dual-carriageway is progressing steadily, with about 63 percent of the project completed.

The Project Manager of Oswal Investments Limited, the contractor working on the project, Gabriel Foli, disclosed in May 2026 that the project was on course for completion by March 2027, in line with the 36-month contract period.

During a monitoring visit by GhanaDistricts TV, construction activities were ongoing at various sections of the road. The Safety Engineer explained that the project, which was awarded in March 2024, had been adopted by the current administration under the Big Push programme.

The project is expected to improve transportation along the Adenta-Dodowa corridor, reduce traffic congestion and make the movement of people and goods easier.

However, the Safety Engineer said the project had faced some delays due to engagements with property owners, valuation of affected properties, compensation processes and other unforeseen circumstances.

He added that the relocation of electricity poles by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had also affected the pace of construction. He therefore indicated that there could be a possible extension of the completion date.

The road project has been divided into three main sections.

The first section covers about eight kilometres from the Adenta Barrier to Katamanso and is being constructed as a dual carriageway with two service roads on both sides.

The second section stretches about six kilometres from Katamanso towards Gbortsui and will have three lanes in the direction of Dodowa.

The final eight-kilometre section extends to the Dodowa Hospital Junction and will consist of a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction.

The completed project will also include major intersections, about seven roundabouts, drainage systems and footbridges at densely populated communities. There are also discussions to increase the number of footbridges beyond the two included in the original design.

The project is expected to reduce travel time for commuters, as journeys between Adenta and Dodowa can currently take up to two hours due to traffic congestion and the limited capacity of the existing road.

Beyond easing congestion, the improved road is expected to boost economic activities by providing better access to markets and communities and encouraging investment in housing and commercial facilities.

Despite the challenges, stakeholders remain hopeful that construction will continue smoothly to enable the project to be completed as soon as possible.

When completed, the Adenta-Dodowa dual-carriageway is expected to provide a safer and more efficient road link between communities in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.
