Pru West District Chief Executive Calls for Peace After Chieftaincy Clashes

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru West, Hon. Samuel Agyapong, has appealed for calm and unity following a week of violent chieftaincy clashes that resulted in shootings and the torching of houses.

The unrest stems from a dispute between the Paramount Chief of the Prang Traditional Area and the Zongo Chief of Prang. The District Security Council (DISEC) has strongly condemned the acts of violence, reassuring residents that security agencies are working diligently to restore order.

In an interview with Ghana Districts, Hon. Agyapong confirmed that 10 individuals have been arrested and convicted in connection with the disturbances. He issued a stern warning to the youth of Prang, stating that further acts of lawlessness or disrespect toward traditional leaders and the Security Council will result in swift legal action.

“I plead with the Omanhene of Prang and his elders to show mercy, especially towards the Zongo youth, as we seek to resolve this matter amicably,” Hon. Agyapong stated.

The DCE extended his appreciation to all parties involved in restoring stability, including the Coordinating Director, Mr. Sulemana Ali; the local council of churches; the Prang Traditional Council led by Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III; the Zongo Traditional Council; Bono East Regional Minister Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi; the Bono East Regional Police Command; the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB); and the local police commander and his team.

Hon. Agyapong concluded by emphasizing the detrimental impact of conflict on development, urging residents to prioritize peace and unity for the progress of the Pru West District.
