The training, held from August 10 to 11, 2026, at the Royal Lamerta Hotel, equipped participants with practical knowledge in by-laws, leadership, decentralisation laws, corporate governance and other key aspects of local governance.

The programme was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), with support from the KMA.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President of NALAG, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, urged Assembly Members to apply the knowledge acquired to promote responsible leadership, accountability and improved service delivery to their constituents.

He emphasised that investments and resources entrusted to the Assembly must “produce value,” stressing that effective local governance remained a critical foundation for national development.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, expressed appreciation to the facilitators and organisers for the initiative. He said he was confident the training would enhance the capacity of Assembly Members to effectively discharge their responsibilities and serve the interests of the government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The Presiding Member, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, also urged participants to put the knowledge and skills gained during the training into practice to improve the lives of residents in Kumasi.

The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates and souvenirs to participants, marking an important milestone in efforts to build stronger, more responsive and accountable local leadership in the metropolis.
