Savelugu MCE commends government for strengthening LEAP programme

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu, Hon. Alhassan Fuseini, has commended the government for strengthening the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to provide direct relief to vulnerable households.

He made the commendation when he received the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and her delegation in the Savelugu Municipality for a validation exercise and the issuance of beneficiary cards.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs and people of Savelugu, Hon. Fuseini expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry for prioritising social protection.

He said the validation and card issuance exercise would help update beneficiary records, improve the efficiency and security of payments, and bring government support closer to the people.

He urged beneficiaries to cooperate with officials by providing accurate information and to safeguard their new cards while remaining vigilant against fraudsters.

The Savelugu MCE further assured the Ministry of the Assembly’s continued support in implementing LEAP and other social intervention programmes.

He noted that the exercise formed part of broader efforts to expand access to social protection services and improve the living conditions of vulnerable individuals and households in the Municipality.

According to him, the Assembly remained committed to ensuring that no eligible beneficiary in Savelugu was left behind.

Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Krowor, said the visit formed part of the government’s drive to enrol more than 400,000 beneficiary households nationwide, while updating records and improving payment systems.

She was accompanied by the Chief Director of the Ministry, members of the Governing Board and other senior officials.

Beneficiaries who participated in the exercise welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation to the government, the Ministry and the Savelugu Municipal Assembly for facilitating access to LEAP and supporting efforts to improve their livelihoods.
