Development Project
The Atiwa District within a relatively short period of its establishment has undertaken a lot of development projects to improve the socio-economic well-being of its people.Some of the development projects undertaken since 2009
include:
Educational Sector
- 14 No. 6-unit classroom blocks constructed
- 11 No. 3 /4 unit classroom blocks constructed -2’- storey unit class block for African Faith SHS
- 1. No. District Library under construction
- Over 4600 dual desks and 1500 KG Table and chairs
- Supplied if `400 Mono Desk
- 12 Unit girls dormitory. (KASTHS)
Health Sector
Five (5) projects initiated and completed
Road Sector
- 7 No. feeder roads projects covering 33.5kg completed
- 2kg. tarred roads initiated and completed.
- 5 No. foot bridges constructed
Water and Sanitation
- 25 No. Boreholes initiated and completed

- Tini Waterfalls being developed.
Tini Waterfall
• Tini waterfall has been relatively developed and being patronized by both local and international tourists.
• Tini Waterfall is located in a lush ever green forest about 6km from Adasawase, a small farming community of about 6km from Anyinam off the Accra-Kumasi highway in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Re gion.
• The attraction consists of spectacular cascading waterfalls over a giant rock formation and an ancient cave. A receptive centre has been developed and the Assembly is seeking a private entrepreneur to run the place at a negotiated sharing formula.
Functions of the District Assembly
These are deliberative, legislative and executive. Section 6(3) of PNDCL207 lists them as follows:
- Be responsible for the overall development of the district and shall ensure the preparation and submission to the Central Government for approval the development plan and budget for the district
- Formulate programmes and strategies for the effective mobilization and utilization of human, physical, financial and other resources of the districts.
- Promote and support productive activity and social development in the district and remove any obstacles to initiatives and development
- Be responsible for the development, improvement and management of human settlements and the environment in the district
- Initiate programmes for the development of basic infrastructure and provide municipal works and services in the district
- In co-operation with appropriate national and local security agencies be responsible for the maintenance of security and public safety in the district
- Ensure ready access to the courts and public tribunals in the districts for the promotion of justice
Initiate, sponsor or carry out such studies as may be necessary for the discharge of any of the functions conferred by this law or any other enactment and Perform such other functions as may be referred to it by the Government

District Development Goal, Projections, Objectives And Strategies
District Development Goal
The broad goal of the plan is to improve the standard of living of the people in Atiwa District through enhanced provision of socio economic infrastructure and services to facilitate the achievement of the MDGs.
District development focus
Atiwa being a new District has a lot of infrastructure challenges. The development focus of the District Medium Term Development plan is to accelerate the provision of socio-economic infrastructure to stimulate and facilitate the development of the district. The major emphasis will be placed on provision of health, education, water and sanitation, road infrastructure to enhance the welfare of the people. Investment in these sectors will create job opportunities for the teaming youth unemployed youth in the District.
Development Projections for 2014-2017
This section gives general overview and development projections proposed to be undertaken during the plan period base on the diagnoses of the existing situation and the prescribed standards. A carefully assessment of the pre-school education in the district indicates that about 65% of all public pre-schools in the district study in a very bad structures and needs to be replaced or renovated. At the basic school level, about 30 classroom blocks will be constructed or rehabilitated to close the infrastructure gap at level by 45%.
Atiwa District with the large portion of the people living in the rural areas, provision of primary health care is of much concern. In this regard during the plan period Eighty (8) Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) Compound will be constructed for Atiwa District increase the access to primary health from 55% to 75%.
Another Area the plan will focus on the agriculture production and productivity. About 65% of the inhabitants of this district engage in agriculture, strategies will be put in place to increase agriculture production by 30%.
The District can boast of relatively high coverage of rural water supply due to the intervention under the Local Governance Service Delivery Project which provided a lot of point source water supply for some communities to achieve 62% rural water coverage. However, there are some communities without potable water. Seven boreholes will be constructed in selected communities in addition to construction of four (4) numbers small town water schemes at Akrofofo, New Jejeti Asamang Tamfoe and Abomosu to increase the water coverage to about 70%.
Even though under the Local Governance Service Delivery Project a lot of feeder roads were worked on, there are still a number of feeder roads that need to be recondition and constructed to open up the district and create access for the rural folks to the marketing centres.
For the past four years about 177 people with disabilities have been supported financially to establish business and the next four years efforts will be made to support 250 PWDs to acquire employable skills and establish businesses. The proposed PROGRAMMES to address the above projection including others are as follows:
• Improve access to pre-school education
• Enhance the capacity of the Medium and scale enterprises
• Improve primary health care
• Enhance educational infrastructure
• Increase agriculture production and productivity
• Address vulnerability and social protection issues in the district
• Improve access to potable water
• Improve collection of internally generated revenue
• Improve road network in the district
• Increase household latrines in the district
