Addressing the colourful ceremony the District Chief Executive for Atiwa West, Mr. Seth Asante underscored the relevance and the importance of the theme for this year’s celebration “Our unity, Our strength, Our purpose”, explaining that the celebration was taking place at a time when national unity and patriotism, essential ingredients for nation building were diminishing.
He noted that virtues like selflessness, honesty, patriotism, dedication to duty, communal spirit, fairness and justice which were the core hallmarks for the country’s socio-economic development have been relegated to the background and instead replaced with tendencies such as, dishonesty, greed, apathy, divisive tendencies, disrespect for adults, rumor mongering and conflict.
He said these undesirable situations were counter-productive to the socio-economic development of the country and therefore called for conscious effort at addressing the menace.
He bemoaned the disturbing trend of chieftaincy disputes in the district and called on all traditional leaders present to try and find amicable solutions to the numerous disputes which according to him threatens the peace and unity of the district.
Schools which excelled in the march past were awarded with certificates Present at the ceremony were personnel from the security agencies, heads of departments and institutions, traditional leaders, the clergy among others.
