Background
The Kwabre East Municipal is one of the forty three Administrative Districts of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It was historically part of Kwabre Sekyere District until it was carved out in 1988. It became Kwabre East Municipal District after Afigya Kwabre District was carved out of the Kwabre District in 2007. The District was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 1894. Its capital, Mamponteng, is approximately 14.5 kilometers from Kumasi. According to the 2010 Population and Housing Census the District’s population stands at 115,556, with 47.7 percent of males while the remaining proportion are females.
The name Kwabre comes from the Akan word ‘’ Kwae a abre’’ meaning a rich and thick forest. The District is known for its cultural heritage as well as its endowment in unique craftworks and natural resources. It is also described as an ultimate tourist destination in Ashanti Region. This has attracted most tourists to the District.
