At a special meeting held by the assembly for that purpose, Nana Bonsu had 31 people voting in his favour out of the 44 eligible Assembly Members. 4 ballots were rejected and 9 votes were also against his nomination.

The election was conducted by the District Electoral Commission with assistance from the regional office.

In his acceptance speech after the elections had been declared by the electoral officer, Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu thanked the members for the confidence they have reposed in him by accepting his nomination. He also thanked the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo for giving him that honour by making him his representative in the district.

He promised to work hard to achieve the development they all yearn to have in the district.

He also revealed that his vision for the district is going to be based on five pillars. These are health, sanitation, education, job creation for the youth and promoting the weaving craft of the youth in the district to the world.

He called for the support of all members irrespective of their political differences to help develop the various communities they are representing.

He added that he is also going to ensure that the district is also elevated to its right status as a "Municipal", instead of "district". Also, he will lobby for the district to be divided into three constituencies due to its size and the population.

Prior to the voting, the National First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. F. F. Antoh admonished the members to consider the capabilities of the nominee and what he can offer the people of Kwabre East before casting their vote.

He added that the nominee has served in many capacities and had acquired so many experiences which can really translate into his performance if given the nod.

He therefore, appealed to the members to vote massively for him and also show some sort of respect to the President of the land, H Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo for his appointment.

He again appealed to the Assembly members to consider the interest of Kwabre east first before their personal parochial interest.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah also applauded the Assembly members for giving the nominee a one-touch victory. She also reiterated the need for all the members to get united, in order to achieve the single desire on all Ghanaians, which is development.

She bemoaned why despite the many resources the district boasts of, the district still lacks behind in development.

Present at the ceremony were a selection of powerful chiefs from some of the communities in the district, religious leaders, party functionaries, loved ones and heads of departments in the assembly.
