The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama recently announced a total of 212 names to fill the positions of the remaining Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief

Executives (MMDCEs) nationwide.

Upon the announcement, the Information Services Department conducted a random interview on the expectations of the public on the nominee from the streets of Ahwiaa, a suburb in the district. From the interview conducted, it was clear that the general expectations from the people on the nominee was good. Many people were happy about the nominee though they do not know him personally.

To most of them they have no doubt the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo would make a mistake in the selection of someone to represent him; knowing how he had toiled over the years to become the president and the current pedigree of the district to the NPP fraternity.

They said they do not expect anything other than the best from Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu. Others also did not doubt the capabilities of the nominee having been instrumental in the fortunes of the party in the just ended elections having polled over seventy thousand votes for the NPP.

To them, the constituency being able to amass that large number of votes for the President, with the youngest candidate ever in the history of Ghana politics speaks volume of the capabilities of the nominee.

They believe Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu, will surely deliver, to improve the votes of the party in the next election and also decrease the rising popularity of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the district.

The public appealed to him to do well to repay the  confidence the President has reposed in him and ensure that he works hard, firstly, for the district and secondly for the party.

Others also appealed to him to be a unifier by bringing on board all the seemingly factions that are beginning to emerge in the party as a result of the Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive internal contests. They appealed to him not to brush aside that perception at all.

Mr. Antwi also admonished him to work for the interest of the party and not the interest of the political party he represents. He noted that though he has come on the ticket of the NPP, he should now concentrate on the development of the district rather than the party.

Issah Abubakar, who claims to be a branch executive of the party said though he had his choice, he cannot do anything against the nominee of the President.  He revealed that he will support him to succeed for the interest of the district and the party.

Miss Fosu also did not have any doubt about the nominee but only appealed to the Assembly members to vote massively for him as was the case in the Accra and Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies, to enable him begin his work quickly for the interest of the district.

Maame Afriyie, also said she has no doubt that Assembly members will vote massively to endorse him.  However, he appealed to Nana Bonsu to be fair, objective and have open doors, to accommodate all persons irrespective of their ethnic groups, religion, political party or gender in order to be very successful.

Generally, there was much optimism on the part of Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu to succeed as the next Chief Executive for the district.
