Also in attendance were Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, clergy, traditional authorities, party representatives, the media, and residents of the community.

Bringing Healthcare Closer to the People

Speakers at the event underscored the critical role the new CHPS compound will play in transforming healthcare access in Shed and surrounding communities. The facility is expected to:

Improve access to quality primary healthcare

Reduce long-distance travel for medical attention

Strengthen maternal and child healthcare services

Enhance preventive and community-based healthcare delivery

The DCE commended the collaborative efforts that led to the project’s completion and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the district.

He emphasized that completing the long-abandoned project aligns with the government’s legacy initiative championed by President John Dramani Mahama to ensure all stalled or unfinished projects are completed for the benefit of citizens.

The Member of Parliament reiterated his continued support for development initiatives that improve the well-being of constituents, stressing that healthcare remains a central pillar of the district’s development agenda.

Meanwhile, the District Health Director assured the community of the facility’s operational readiness, stating that trained health personnel have been assigned to deliver professional and quality services.

Traditional leaders expressed deep appreciation to government and stakeholders for bringing the long-awaited project to fruition, describing it as a turning point for healthcare in the area.

Borehole Commissioned at Asantekrom

In a further demonstration of the Assembly’s development drive, the team proceeded to commission a newly constructed borehole at Asantekrom. The facility is expected to provide safe and potable drinking water to residents.

The project was officially handed over to the community following a symbolic water-fetching exercise, symbolizing sustainability and community ownership.

A Renewed Commitment to Development

The commissioning of the Shed CHPS Compound and the Asantekrom borehole reflects a renewed commitment by the Sefwi Akontombra District Assembly to improving healthcare access and basic social services.

For the people of Shed, the completion of the 14-year-old project is more than infrastructure — it is a restored promise and a new chapter in community development.
