Health care Delivery in Amenfi Central Needs Attention

Amenfi Central District currently operates without its own District Health Directorate.

Oversight responsibility is managed by the Amenfi West District Health Directorate, which creates administrative gaps and slows down the implementation of tailored health policies for Amenfi Central. This arrangement has left the district struggling to meet the growing health needs of its population.

Health Sub-Districts and Facilities

The district is divided into six health sub-districts, including Manso Amenfi, Adjakaa Manso, and Anyinabrim, which serve as focal points for healthcare delivery. Across these sub-districts, there are 26 health facilities, comprising three Health Centres, 20 CHPS compounds, and three Clinics. While these facilities are evenly distributed, they remain insufficient to serve the increasing population.

Absence of a District Hospital

One of the most pressing concerns is the lack of a District Hospital. Without a central hospital, residents are forced to travel long distances to neighboring districts for advanced medical care. This not only delays treatment but also increases the risk of complications, especially in emergencies such as maternal health crises, accidents, and surgical needs. The absence of a hospital severely limits the district’s ability to provide specialized services.

Inadequate Health Staff

The district also suffers from a shortage of healthcare professionals. Nurses, midwives, and doctors are stretched thin, often serving large populations with minimal resources. This shortage undermines the effectiveness of CHPS compounds and clinics, which are meant to bring healthcare closer to communities. The lack of staff has left many facilities under pressure, reducing the quality of care available to residents.

Call for Urgent Investment

Local authorities and health advocates are calling for urgent investment in healthcare infrastructure. Establishing a District Hospital, recruiting more health professionals, and equipping existing facilities with modern tools are critical steps toward improving healthcare delivery. Without these interventions, Amenfi Central risks falling behind in achieving national health targets and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
