GA NORTH: 200 residents enrolled onto national apprenticeship programme

A total of 200 residents in the Ga North Municipality have been enrolled onto the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme as part of ongoing efforts to reduce unemployment and equip young people with employable skills in the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Akwetey Agbo, disclosed this in an interview Ghanadistricts.com. He explained that the initiative forms part of broader measures by the assembly to empower the youth through vocational and technical training.

According to him, nearly 1,000 young people across the municipality registered for the programme following the announcement of the initiative. Out of that number, 200 applicants were selected and are currently undergoing training in various vocational fields including dressmaking, hairdressing, carpentry, welding, catering, and auto mechanics.

Mr. Agbo noted that the programme is already yielding positive results, stating that 50 of the beneficiaries who enrolled during the first phase have successfully completed their apprenticeship training.

He added that the graduates have been provided with startup kits to enable them establish their own businesses and become self-reliant. The support packages, he explained, are intended to help beneficiaries transition smoothly from training into entrepreneurship and employment.

The Municipal Chief Executive further assured residents of the assembly’s commitment to creating more opportunities for young people in the municipality. He urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the programme by remaining dedicated and disciplined throughout their training.

He also appealed to private sector players and development partners to support initiatives aimed at addressing youth unemployment, stressing that skills development remains one of the most effective ways to improve livelihoods and stimulate local economic growth.
