Mr Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who announced this, said all necessary engagements and negotiations for the project had been completed and the construction was awaiting financial clearance.

The MCE made the disclosure at the Atwima-Agogo Palace when he interacted with the Atwima-Agogo Chief and his elders during the celebration of the Akwasidae festival.

Mr Boamah reaffirmed his commitment, as well as that of the Government, to improving infrastructure and promoting development for the benefit of residents in the municipality.

He said another community in the municipality would also benefit from the remaining five-kilometre stretch of asphalted road under the initiative.

The MCE explained that the programme had been designed by President Mahama to provide 10 kilometres of asphalted roads to each Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly across the country.

He said the Government remained committed to providing the infrastructure needed to improve the living conditions of residents and promote economic and social development.

Mr Boamah stressed that the development agenda of the municipality could not be achieved without the collective efforts of traditional authorities, opinion leaders, residents and other stakeholders.

He assured the gathering of his readiness to work closely with traditional authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen the development agenda of the area, saying inclusive and united efforts would accelerate local development.

“May the bond between our traditional authorities, our people and the Assembly continue to grow stronger for the progress and prosperity of our Municipality,” he added.

Nana Osei Kwame III, Atwima-Agogohene, commended the Government for the road initiative and the MCE for considering the Agogo-Maakro road for construction.

He appealed for expedited action to ensure the project commenced as soon as possible, explaining that the poor condition of the road was having serious economic and social consequences for residents.

He said the deplorable state of the road affected not only traders, businesses and their owners but also education and healthcare, particularly learners, teachers and health workers who commuted along the route.

Nana Osei Kwame III therefore called for urgent attention to the road to alleviate the difficulties faced by residents and improve transportation within the area.

He also commended the MCE for his humility, respect and cooperation with the traditional authorities in the area.

As part of his activities during the Akwasidae celebration, Mr Boamah later visited the Sepaase Palace, where he interacted with chiefs, opinion leaders and residents.

The engagements formed part of activities marking the Akwasidae Festival, a sacred and cherished occasion on the Akan traditional calendar.
