Obuasi East MCE Presents GH¢250,000 Transformers to Restore Power in Kwabenakwa and Asonkore

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has handed over two 200KVA/33KVA transformers valued at GH¢250,000 to the communities of Kwabenakwa and Asonkore to restore stable electricity supply after months of persistent power outages.

The intervention comes as a major relief to residents and businesses in the two communities, which have experienced unreliable electricity supply for the past six months. According to the Assembly, the transformers were procured directly after the required equipment was temporarily unavailable at the Ministry of Energy, demonstrating the Assembly's commitment to addressing the challenge without further delay.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Hon. Adzowu acknowledged the difficulties residents had endured due to the prolonged outages and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

He reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring that residents receive reliable public services.

"I am here to serve the good people of Obuasi East, and it is my primary responsibility to ensure that our citizens receive the reliable services they deserve," he stated.

The MCE appealed to residents to protect the transformers by avoiding illegal electricity connections and reporting faults promptly to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure the equipment serves the communities for many years.

Community leaders welcomed the intervention and expressed appreciation to the Municipal Assembly for responding swiftly to their concerns.

The Abusuapayin of Kwabenakwa Subinso, Nana Akwasi Addo, said the prolonged power interruptions had adversely affected households and businesses, with many traders suffering financial losses due to disrupted commercial activities.

The Assembly Member for the Kwabenakwa Electoral Area, Hon. Charles Abu, commended the MCE for his proactive leadership, describing the procurement of the transformers as a major step towards restoring economic activities and improving the quality of life of residents.

The Assembly disclosed that technical teams from the Electricity Company of Ghana are finalising installation works, after which stable and uninterrupted electricity supply is expected to be restored to both Kwabenakwa and Asonkore.

The intervention forms part of the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly's broader commitment to improving essential infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for socio-economic development across the municipality.
