The Abuakwa North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Charles Darko Yeboah, popularly known as Hon. The intervention comes after residents appealed to the Municipal Assembly to pull down the deteriorating structure, which had reportedly been abandoned for several years and had become a serious sanitation concern in the community.
According to residents, the abandoned facility had turned into a hotspot for open defecation, leaving the surrounding area engulfed in an unpleasant stench, with flies invading nearby homes and exposing children and adults to potential health risks.
It would be recalled that the MCE had earlier released GH¢700 to a carpenter to remove the roofing sheets from the structure. However, nearly four months after the removal, residents said the situation had worsened, as some individuals continued to enter the facility at night to defecate.
Following the latest report by Nopras 107.5 FM, Hon. Charles Darko Yeboah swiftly intervened and fully funded the demolition exercise to eliminate the sanitation nuisance and reduce the risk of a possible disease outbreak.
It has also emerged that the Municipal NADMO Director, Hon. Assah Joseph, had written several letters to the MCE advocating for the demolition of the structure because of its hazardous condition.
The demolition has been welcomed by residents of New Tafo Zongo, who expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Ozay for the intervention, Hon. Assah Joseph for his continued efforts, and Nopras 107.5 FM for bringing their concerns to public attention.
The development highlights the importance of community engagement, media reporting and responsive local administration in addressing sanitation challenges and protecting public health.
