The handover ceremony, held at the project site on Thursday, brought together officials of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, consultants from Architect and Engineer Service Limited (AESL), and representatives of the contracting firm to officially commence the project.
Scheduled for completion within 30 months, the project forms part of efforts to promote the government's 24-hour economy agenda and improve commercial and transport infrastructure within the municipality.
The modern market complex will feature a Police and Fire Service post with a hydrant, a six-bed clinic, pharmacy, Environmental Health Office, market manager's office, parcel office, and an information centre. It will also include 132 lockable shops, 132 open sheds, 160 pavement sheds, 10 warehouses, a lorry terminal with additional parking space for large vehicles, 24 washrooms, and 24 toilet facilities.
Other facilities to be provided include designated meat shops, a crèche with capacity for 40 children, a refuse disposal site, a women's bank, a shopping mall and supermarket, restaurants, salons, barbering shops, and a disability-friendly six-bed hostel with guest rooms.
As part of the ceremony, stakeholders conducted a joint inspection of the project site to assess underground utility lines and boundary considerations while clarifying their respective roles in the implementation process.
Technical Officer at Architect and Engineer Service Limited, Ms. Gifty Seidu, stressed the importance of channeling all project-related communication through the consultants to ensure proper management of variations and cost adjustments and to avoid technical breaches. She assured stakeholders that AESL would provide the necessary technical supervision to ensure the project meets the required standards and contributes to the socio-economic development of Adentan, the Greater Accra Region, and the country.
Municipal Chief Executive for Adentan, Hon. Ella Christine Esinam Nongo, reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project in accordance with the contract specifications. She described the initiative as a major milestone in the Assembly's efforts to advance development under the 24-hour economy framework.
Hon. Nongo urged the contractor to expedite work while strictly adhering to the approved project design to guarantee quality delivery and value for money.
She noted that the project would provide modern infrastructure to enhance commerce, transportation, and overall community development within the municipality.
