46 Persons with Disabilities Receive Life-changing Support to boost Economic Empowerment

Forty-six (46) Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Atwima Mponua District received life-changing livelihood support from the District Assembly in a major step towards promoting economic independence and inclusive development.

The colourful presentation ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Atwima Mponua District Assembly on Tuesday, brought together traditional leaders, clergy, Assembly Members, heads of departments, members of the media, beneficiaries and other stakeholders to witness what officials described as another milestone in the Assembly's social intervention agenda.

The beneficiaries, made up of 27 women and 19 men, received a wide range of livelihood support items tailored to their individual economic interests and needs. The items included deep freezers, popcorn machines, industrial sewing machines, mist blowers, complete barbering equipment, wheelchairs, fufu pounding machines, bales of second-hand clothing for retail businesses, as well as provisions and sachet water to support small-scale trading.

The intervention forms part of the District Assembly's commitment to empowering Persons Living with Disabilities to become financially independent while contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the district.

Addressing the gathering, the District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Carlton Mawulorm, disclosed that beneficiaries were selected through a rigorous and transparent process. He urged them to put the support to good use by investing in sustainable income-generating activities that would improve their living conditions and those of their families.

District Chief Executive, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, echoed the same message, encouraging beneficiaries to treat the items as tools for transforming their lives rather than short-term assistance.

He stressed that the Assembly remains committed to creating opportunities that enable Persons Living with Disabilities to achieve self-reliance and participate fully in the local economy.

"This support is intended to improve livelihoods and create sustainable sources of income for our brothers and sisters living with disabilities. We encourage every beneficiary to make productive use of these items for the benefit of themselves, their families and the district as a whole," the DCE stated.

Hon. Issahak Ibrahim further commended the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, the District Disability Fund Management Committee and all stakeholders whose commitment ensured the successful implementation of the programme.

He revealed that this marks the third tranche of livelihood support distributed to Persons Living with Disabilities since he assumed office as District Chief Executive, reaffirming his administration's determination to leave no one behind in the district's development agenda.

"Together, we will continue to build an inclusive Atwima Mponua where every citizen, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive," he affirmed.

The event was attended by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Issaka Kombat, traditional authorities, members of the clergy, Assembly Members, heads of departments, the media and families of the beneficiaries, all of whom applauded the initiative as a significant investment in dignity, inclusion and economic empowerment.

For many of the beneficiaries, the support represented more than the receipt of equipment—it marked the beginning of a renewed journey toward financial independence, self-confidence and a brighter future.
