WATER AND SANITATION

The level of potable water supply is slightly higher than the national figure of 57.0%. Abuakwa South Municipal currently has coverage of above 65% for communities with population below 5000. The water facilities  include Boreholes, Hand dug wells and Stand pipes.

In all, 109 Boreholes, 17 Hand dug wells, and 49 Stand pipes are available. Among these numbers, 6 Boreholes, 2 Hand dug wells and 3 stand pipes are not functioning. Water facilities were provided under the sponsorship of DANIDA, JICA ADRA, ORAP, AMER and the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly.

Sanitation on the other hand remains a major development problem in the district. There are only 581 sanitary facilities (VIPs) available for a population of 110,964.
