He emphasized the need for responsible and sustainable mining practices, urging all miners to adhere strictly to the legal and regulatory frameworks governing mining in the country.
According to him, the assembly has formed a taskforce and is already engaging these illegal miners to secure requisite documentation to back their operations or face the full force of the law.
The MCE, who was speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, said: “We know the risks involved in galamsey and are determined to preserve our environment and protect the livelihoods of our people”
"There are processes to follow, let's follow that, let's do the right thing and let’s have peace of mind. If it is mining we want to do, let's just do the right thing but if you decide not to do the right thing then I can guarantee that I will not allow you", the MCE added.
He noted that the Assembly will continue to work in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure that only licensed mining operations are permitted in the municipality.
