Tourism and Culture

Tourism is one of the key contributors to National Income yet, this sector has remained underdeveloped in th eCentral Tongu District. There are a number of potentials including Avakpedome tourist site, long stretch of SandyBeaches with two big Island (Awadiwoekome and Siamekome), and Opportunities for Hospitality Industry.

Few hotels and restaurants are found in the District Suncity, Esenam Hotel, Ronna Guest House and Salem Hotel(Adidome). There are other guesthouses and a Rest Stop for the president and ministers during the formal president Dr. Nkrumah regime in the District as well as drinking bars and chop bars within the markets and along the main roads throughout the District.

Markets

The major markets in the District are the Adidome and the Mafi Kumase markets. The Adidome market has biweekly market days (Tuesdays and Fridays) while Mafi Kumase market has only Mondays as market days. Both markets enjoy wide patronage with traders coming from as far as Accra, Koforidua, Aflao and other places beyondthe Region.

Other smaller markets are found at Adidome, Mafi Avedo, Battor and Mafi Agorve but they lack proper structuresand need to be improved upon.

Shops

A large number of shops are situated in major towns in the District. Located mainly around markets and irregularlyalong the main roads of towns, these shops trade in various goods ranging from household items to chemicals. The District also has number chemical shops, which supply the populace with first aid drugs
