Education
Table 1.4 provides some basic information on the type and level of Public Educational facilities in the Municipality.

Figure 5 shows the distribution of both the Public and Private Basic Schools in the Municipality. As shown, most of the Public Schools are concentrated in the middle and southern part of the Municipality with virtually none in the North-Western part which have notable communities like Abensu and Fise. The Map also shows that there are more Private Schools in the Municipality than Public with most of them concentrated at the Southern part. It is therefore obvious that the private sector has acted proactively in filling the gap of making education accessible. However, there is still the need to ensure easy accessibility to Basic Public schools since they are more financially accessible.
Net enrolments rate (the number of pupils enrolled in basic schools expressed as a percentage of the population in that age group) continues to increase. It currently stands at 142.1% which is a major improvement over the 2018 figure which stood at 132.8%. The progress has been attributed to the continuous implementation of the School Feeding Programme with thirty (30) schools out the Thirty-Two (32) Basic Schools in the Municipality currently benefiting.
The Municipality recorded a pass rate of 89.65% for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for 2020 which shows a positive steady improvement when compared to the 2018 and 2019 figures of 75.2% and 85.06% respectively.
Major problems currently facing the education sector includes the following:
• Inadequate Educational Infrastructure
• Congestion in Classrooms
• Lack of Teachers Accommodation
• Inadequate Classroom Furniture

The Municipality also has Two (2) Senior High School (St Johns Grammar Senior High School and Amasaman Senior High School) which is located at Tantra Hills and Amasaman respectively. Both schools currently boast of a total enrolment of Five Thousand Four Hundred and One (5401). This enrolment figures have been greatly attributed to the Free Senior High School Programme introduced by the government in 2018. Before that the total enrolment stood at Three Thousand Four Hundred and Thirty-Five (3,435).
There are also Three (3) Universities in the Municipality namely; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST- City Campus) and University of Applied Management both located at Kwabenya and Heritage Christian University College at Stadium road, Amasaman.
There is a total of Seven Hundred and Eighty-Five (785) teachers in the Municipality out of which Seven Hundred and Seventy-Seven (777) are professionally trained and eight (8) are untrained.
The pupil to teacher ratio for Preschool, Primary and JHS are 25, 47 and 23 respectively. The Preschool and JHS ratios compare favorably with the National Standard of 25 and 35. However the ratio for the Primary level, 47 is above the National Standard of 26.99(2019).
The Municipality can boast of 63 trained and 1 untrained teacher at the Pre-School level, 239 trained and 1 untrained teacher at the Primary School level, 322 trained and 1 untrained at the Junior High School level and 153 trained teachers at the Senior High School level.
