Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II, David Asa Darko, the Western Regional GNFS Commander, who made the appeal, said the tanker’s breakdown had hindered their firefighting efforts, and that mechanical report revealed that the engine needed to be replaced at a cost of about GHC100,000.
He said the amount was beyond the command’s financial capabilities; hence, it needed the attention of the Regional Minister for redress.
He made the appeal when Mr. Nelson paid a working visit to the Regional Fire Command, at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
ACFO II Darko said: “Our water tanker which has 3,000 gallons capacity has been broken for two years, and we are hoping that government will assist us to fix it.”
The Western Regional Minister, responding to the issue, pledged his office’s support to the Fire Service, recognising the vital role it played in national development.
He commended the officers and men for their dedication and commitment in keeping the Region safe from fire related incidents despite their operational challenges.
Mr. Nelson also urged the Command to review its emergency response strategies to ensure timely response to fire situations.
