The district has recorded notable improvements in both solid and liquid waste management, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance environmental health and public safety.
As part of the sanitation reform agenda, the Assembly has rolled out a plan to clear all unapproved dumping sites and relocate communal waste containers to designated areas. In line with this strategy, a 12-acre engineered final disposal site has been acquired at Gomoa Ofaso to ensure proper and sustainable waste management.
The facility is expected to serve as a long-term solution to the district’s waste disposal challenges while promoting environmental cleanliness and reducing health risks associated with indiscriminate dumping.
In addition, the district is actively implementing the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Programme, supported by UNICEF and the World Bank, aimed at promoting behavioural change and ending open defecation in communities.
Sanitation stakeholders say the combined interventions are helping to transform hygiene practices and improve public health outcomes across Gomoa Central.
The Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining sanitation reforms and ensuring that all communities benefit from a clean, safe, and healthy environment as part of its broader development agenda.
