The drivers say the poor condition of the road is causing serious transportation difficulties, increasing vehicle maintenance costs, and exposing motorists and passengers to frequent armed robbery attacks.

According to them, the deplorable state of the road has become a major burden on commuters, traders, farmers, students, and residents who depend on the route for their daily activities.

The road serves as an important transportation link between communities within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality and the Amansie West District but has deteriorated over the years due to deep potholes, erosion, and poor drainage systems.

Speaking on behalf of the drivers, some commercial vehicle operators lamented that travelling on the stretch had become extremely difficult, especially during the rainy season when sections of the road become muddy and nearly impassable.

They explained that journeys that previously took a short period now consume several hours because drivers are forced to slow down to avoid accidents and damage to their vehicles.

The drivers noted that the situation had significantly increased vehicle maintenance costs, as operators frequently spend huge sums on repairs, spare parts, and fuel consumption.

According to them, the poor nature of the road is negatively affecting their daily income and making transportation services difficult for both drivers and passengers.

Beyond the transportation challenges, the drivers also expressed concern over rising insecurity along the route, alleging that armed robbers were taking advantage of the damaged portions of the road to attack motorists and passengers.

They disclosed that vehicles often become stranded or are forced to slow down at bad sections of the road, creating opportunities for criminal attacks.

One of the drivers said armed robbers usually attack drivers and passengers whenever vehicles slow down or get stuck on the deteriorated portions of the road.

The drivers said the attacks had created fear among road users, particularly those who travel during the early morning hours and at night.

They have therefore appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, and the respective district assemblies to prioritise the rehabilitation of the road.

According to them, repairing the stretch would improve transportation, reduce travel time, enhance security, lower vehicle maintenance costs, and boost economic activities within the affected communities.

Residents along the route have also expressed concern about the worsening condition of the road, stressing that it is negatively affecting farming activities, trading, education, and access to healthcare services.
