Agona West MP donates equipment to Swedru Municipal Government hospital

Mrs Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West has presented hospital equipment to the Swedru Municipal Government hospital to enhance the operations of the facility.

According to the MP, the donation of the equipment was in connection with the campaign promise she made in the 2024 elections and her recent visit to the hospital to assess the situation to improve upon healthcare delivery.

Presenting the equipment, Mrs Dangbey said eight years ago at the Swedru Hospital, she experienced the ordeal people with health complications go through when the requisite equipment was not available, but the problem still existed, hence the donation.

The equipment are beds, BP apparatus, Axillary thermometers, weighing scales, nebulizing machines, auto scale, autoclave, fetoscope, Drip stands, salter scale, forceps (straight), forceps curve and a gun thermometer.  

The rests are foetal Droppler, examination lamp, curved artery forces, galipot, digital BP apparatus, infra-red thermometer, delivery /weighing scale, episiotomy lamp, pulse oximeter, kidney dish, lab weighing scale, HB meter, glucometer ultrasound scan, vacuum extractor, and many others.

They would be distributed to 16 other health centers to complement the efforts of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff to provide quality healthcare delivery in the Agona West Constituency.

The MP said it had been her dream that Swedru Government Hospital becomes one of the best facilities to receive the needful equipment to perform it functions especially emergency cases, adding that not all cases should be referred to Winneba Specialized and Trauma Hospital.

She said the hospital served, not only Swedru residents, but Agona East, Gomoa Central, Awutu Bawjise and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Districts and beyond.

Discussions, the MP noted, were currently ongoing with the Minister of Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for the provision of modern X-rally machine to replace the obsolete one at the Swedru Municipal Government Hospital to help staff offer quality services.
 

The MP said plans were far advanced to break the grounds for expansion works of the female ward of Swedru Government Hospital.  

Dr. Jocelyn Darkwa, Agona West Municipal Director of Health Services who received the equipment, commended the MP for the prompt response to support the hospital with new equipment and expressed gratitude to her for the donation, calling for more support from individuals and organisations to further  equip the hospital for it to render quality healthcare to the inhabitants of the Area.

 

Mr. Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the donation of the equipment to the hospital formed part of the reset agenda trumpeted by President John Mahama and NDC party in the 2024 elections.

He said the government of President John Mahama was poised to offer priority to the health sector and commended the staff for the voluntarily services rendered in the recent nationwide strike action embarked upon by Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNWA) to save many lives.

Dr Julius Abuku, the Medical Superintendent of Swedru Municipal Government Hospital said the prompt response made by the MP really indicated that the reset agenda pledged by President Mahama was working in the health care delivery system.

The Medical Superintendent assured the MP that equipment would be taken diligent care of and appealed to the MP and MCE to continue to support the hospital to enable doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff to deliver quality healthcare services to the people of Agona West and beyond.
