The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to promote transparency, build public trust, and ensure residents are well informed about the objectives, scope, and potential benefits of the proposed exploration activities. It also created an opportunity for community members to ask questions and express their concerns.
Mr. Philip Oppong Amponsah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations at GIISDEC, underscored the strategic importance of iron ore development to Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.
He explained that the exploration exercise is a critical step toward establishing a viable iron and steel industry, which could reduce the country’s reliance on imported steel, create jobs, and stimulate local economic growth. He assured residents that all activities would be carried out in line with regulatory standards and in close consultation with the community.
Madam Sophia Aubyn, the District Chief Executive, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development. She noted that the partnership between the Assembly, GIISDEC, and the Ghana Geological Survey Authority reflects a shared vision of harnessing local resources for national development while safeguarding community interests. She urged residents to remain cooperative throughout the process.
Mr. Jeffrey Koomson, who represented the area’s Member of Parliament, conveyed the MP’s support for the project and commended the institutions for prioritising stakeholder engagement. He stressed the need for transparency and continuous communication to ensure that the host community benefits from the initiative.
Mr. Frank Kwabena Bonsu, Western Regional Director of GGSA, provided technical insight into the exploration process. He explained that geological surveys are conducted to determine the quantity and quality of mineral deposits before any large-scale development begins. He assured residents that environmental protection remains a priority and that scientific assessments would guide every stage of the project.
Nana Kwandoh Brempong III, Chief of Adum-Banso, welcomed the initiative and commended the consultative approach adopted by the organisers. He encouraged residents to support lawful development efforts while remaining vigilant in protecting their lands and livelihoods.
The engagement concluded with an interactive session, where residents sought clarification on employment opportunities, environmental safeguards, and timelines for the exploration activities.
